This is a copy of Session One of NSFM video titled “Developing a vision of shop floor management” and is a part of the 10-session video course, New Shop Floor Management – Empowering People for Continuous Improvement. Note that this directly links to total corporate transformation.
I developed this video course in 1992 with SME, and wrote the book under the same title, published in 1993 from The Free Press (Simon and Shuster). As I review this video now in 2011, and see myself in the video some 20 years younger, lots of memories come back. At the same time, I realize all the messages shared in this video are still very valid, if not more important.
As mentioned in the video, market and technologies change rapidly, competition intensifies, and people face various challenges everywhere. Companies are seeking ways to transform from traditional to progressive way of doing business with everyone invloved and with clear management principle.
Few days ago, I came back from Europe after conducting seminars to address those concerns. The idea is to acquire skills for self-management, be the master of our own destiny, and as a company to orchestrate the process of change while everyone to find the means and purpose in work and life with such concepts like mini-company, and glass wall managemnet. Over 43% of all babies born from the Millennium onwards will become a diabetic. Some may not even outlive their parents! That means they will shorten their lives by at least 10-14 years+ and their quality of life has taken a nose dive! Are you a parent?
There’s no rocket science here people. If you’d like to prevent and also reverse your labelled dis-ease (Diabetes), then TAKE CONTROL of your environment. (aka your LIFESTYLE)
I provide some interesting statistics in the UK and in the US.
2.5 million People in the UK have been labelled with diabetes. Over 1/2 million are also diabetic but don’t know it! That’s 4% of the population in the UK and it’s costing you and me over £1 million every hour in TREATING it! This dis-ease is preventable and REVERSIBLE… It’s not OK for the NHS to look in the wrong place. They’re into spending over 10% of their budget in treating a preventable and reversible dis-ease. Why not look into EMPOWERING and teaching people HOW TO reverse it and also prevent it? Interesting hey? Over 80% of those people with Type II diabetes are over weight/obese.
Over 23.6 million people in the US have diabetes. Thats 8% of the population.

The idea is to look in all the right places and to then find what youre looking for. It is my opinion that our dis-ease management system (aka health care) is looking in all the wrong places in order to find a cure, rather than to empower people HOW To take control of their health through better LIFESTYLE CHOICES.
Consuming high GI PRODUCTS or even FOODS will not control your blood sugar levels and will age you before your time.

The Arc of Bismarck is committed to empowering people with disabilities and ensuring all people are fully infused into our shared community. The Arc of Bismarck produced this video in an effort to encourage personal responsibility in emergency readiness planning and to showcase the importance of including all people in the systemic planning process. At a conference for people with disabilities and their support networks held in the spring of 2010, self-advocates learned about emergency readiness and shared personal stories pertaining to emergency situations. This conference was not only an educational opportunity that encouraged personal preparedness, but also an opportunity for disability awareness through media.
